Face #5

This is done in my Stonehenge Faces journal with Prismacolor colored pencil.  This is the first time I’ve tried my new set and I LOVE them.  I need more colors though because all I bought was the portrait set!  I think someone still owes me a birthday present…  😀

And because…I don’t know.  I just wanted to do it.  Here he is with our view in the background.  It’s not even a sunny day like yesterday…I just wanted to go out there and take a pic.  🙂

  1. it looks good! you did capture the light on face very well. the blue background really does match the blue sky. 🙂

  2. I have these pencils too. Love the colors and the expression.

  3. I just ordered some colored pencils too, and was looking for a set that would be good for faces. I didn’t see the portrait set! Darn! I had a gift card at Amazon, so I bought mine there. Where did you get yours? The face looks great, BTW! {:-D

  4. As you know, I love your faces but I also love your view. I am an ocean freak who now lives in Colorado – figure it out. However, I know that winters in Oregon are no picnic. I have been to Newport and I don’t think I would like it there but Oregon is beautiful. Don’t think I could handle all of the misty rain. Hugs

Thanks Teddy! I learned about capturing the light from Moira Richardson in her Weekly Art Date workshop (linked in the right sidebar). It has really made a difference in my portraits! Thanks, Joan! And Storybeader, I got mine at Dick Blick’s. I just today ordered the regular set of 24 through Amazon though, because I found a listing for $18! And Maryann, we love Oregon and especially the coast, but yes, we can’t live on the coast we’ve decided. Not enough going on and terrible schools, it turns out. And there is a lot of misty rain, but it basically replaces the snow you get elsewhere, I’d say. We get a good share of sun over here, too! Yesterday was brilliant, and half of today was clear, too. I hear what you’re saying about the town. It’s a working seaport and no tourist trap. 😉 We’re in Beverly Beach, north of actual Newport, so it has a different vibe.

  6. Yay, a guy! He looks great! I love that view. I have huge set of 120 Prismacolors that I got for my birthday one year. I love them. They last a long time. I have used up and replaced 3 or 4 of them. I like that most art stores carry singles so it is easy to replace them as you use them.

I love your face, and how you have used it. I’m still practicing like mad but nothing to show for it yet. Your coloured pencils seem to work really well. I must try some, perhaps!

Thank you! They really do make a difference, Leonora. I’d never tried Prismacolors before, but they are NICE to work with and make me want to do much more with them.
